Is it possible to buy a replacement cf card reader to install one’s self on a Canon Rebel? If so where?
I am looking at buying a canon rebel XTI from someone. They are selling it because they bent a pin in it and don’t want to mess with it (must be nice to spend that much on something and not have to care) Any way I want to know if I can buy a replacement and install it myself. I am buying the camera for $200, I’ve read that to send it off to Canon would cost $150-$200 to have them fix it. I have also heard that you can bend the pin back sometimes (no often….but worth a try) any one have any advise.

Don’t go to Best Buy. They’ll push to have you buy a new camera. Instead, find an Authorized Canon Service Center where they can give you a free estimate.
To be honest, I’ve straightened out a couple of bent pins in cameras myself, but it depends on the damage. I’ve used a plastic hollow straw or coffee stirrer, inserted it over the bent pin, and GENTLY straightened it out.
BUT, if you take apart a camera like the Canon Rebel XTi, you’ve taking on a task best left to trained professionals. There’s also a good chance that other things could be damaged during the “repair”, so I wouldn’t do it. I’ve repaired lenses and laptops, but a digital SLR is something I’d leave to those who know.
